Silver Clay is this awesome, relatively new medium that comes in two types: PMC and Art Clay. Both are made by Japanese companies. It is basically silver particles mixed in with a biodegradeble substance to form a clay that can be molded and shaped into whatever you want. There is also a paste form that can be painted and used as solder or glue. It is a very cool medium.

How did this come about you might be wondering? Well, I had taken a class back in November at a local Beadshow. Sadly, the pieces I made just didn’t excite me despite the fact that I bought the necessary supplies to try making pieces on my own. Maybe it was that the class was only a few hours long. I felt rushed.

Then the Bead Expo came to Charleston, and I decided to try my hand at PMC again. Needless to say I had a much, much better time of it. Everything I made, I loved. I think this was in part due to the instructor, Susan J. Lewis, and the time factor. I had an entire day of instruction and participation. I also got to use a kiln, a tumbler, and apply new techniques like using Liver of Sulfer and Silver Black to produce different looks on the silver.

It was just so much fun that I want to make more pieces. I want to make exclusive pendants and earrings. For starters, I made three pieces: a hollow bead pendant, a hollow disc pendant, and leaf pendant. Stay tuned for pictures and future pieces. I also plan to add a new category to my site.

It certainly has been a long while since I’ve updated this blog. I’ve been busy working and creating new pieces. I even finally finished “Moonlight on the Greenmile”, but I have yet to get pictures taken. It came out almost exactly like the image in my head. I think I am getting better at producing what I have sketched out on paper or imagined in my head. No one is more surprised by this than me. And, it is not just because my ability to draw is only matched by my ability to tell a decent joke. I cannot draw a straight line without a bend and I can’t tell a joke without going off on a tangent. (Believe me, it ruins the setup and the punchline.) I may have to find a way to scan some of my work and place it along side the actual piece created. Anyways, I should be updating on new pieces soon. Thanks for listening.

You just never know when you’ll make a sale. The VTS came and went without a sale. It was fun and informative, and I got some nice hits, but no sales. :( Well, this past Thursday was my monthly gem club meeting and also our Holiday party, so I decided to bring my five VTS pieces to the party to display. It was just a small little hope that I might pique the interest of someone in the club or some unsuspecting passerby. It was the latter who bit. And guess what? I sold my Caribbean Sun Set. The gentleman bought it for his girl right there and then. I was so excited. I also got some very nice comments about my work, the whole look and the uniqueness of my pieces. It was a pretty good day.
